Jets add NPL duo to A-League squad

Newcastle Jets have boosted their stocks ahead of their A-League opener by signing young National Premier Leagues stand-outs Tete Yengi and Jack Armson.

Towering forward Yengi, 20, and industrious midfielder Armson, 22, join the Jets on scholarship contracts after impressive campaigns in the NPL.

Yengi comes to the Jets from NPL South Australia Premiers Adelaide Comets, where he has played in for the past two seasons and netted nine goals in 38 league appearances.

Yengi told newcastlejets.com.au he is eager to make the most of the next step in his career.

"It's a huge opportunity for me," Yengi said.

"It's been a dream of mine to play in the A-League since I was a youngster. Hopefully I can get on the pitch and show everyone what I can do."

Armson joins the Jets on the back of two impressive campaigns in NPL2 New South Wales with Bonnyrigg White Eagles, where he scored 12 goals in 37 senior appearances.

"I'm happy to be here and excited for the opportunity. I'm buzzing to be around a professional club and to be able to play around some great players," Armson said.

"My goal is to work hard and try and win a spot in the starting eleven.

Hopefully I can play a part in the club working it's way back into the Finals again."

Jets coach Craig Deans is pleased by what both players have shown since joining the club during the pre-season, where both players found the back of the net in preparation for the A-League season.

"Jack is a versatile player. He has earned his chance during his pre-season trial by taking his chances when they've arisen against A-League opponents," Deans said.

"He scored a goal against City and would've had another against Macarthur if it wasn't for an offside call.

"Tete is an exciting prospect. He brings something different to the team with the combination of his physical make-up and his technical ability.

"And like Jack, he took his opportunity when it came up, scoring against City with a nice finish.

"They both have a good opportunity to keep working hard and make the most of the chances they will get during the season. "

The Jets commence their A-League season in a highly anticipated F3 Derby clash with Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday, 31 December.
