‘It’s time these boys got ruthless’: Arnold to bring strongest available squad to Canberra

Graham Arnold his urged his Caltex Socceroos to get ruthless on the road to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, vowing to pick his strongest possible squad for the clash with Nepal in Canberra.

The Caltex Socceroos will return to the nation’s capital for the first time in four years when they face Nepal at GIO Stadium on October 10.

It’s one of Australia’s initial steps on the journey to get to the FIFA World Cup finals for a fifth straight time and Arnold will be going all guns blazing into every match.

“[I’ll be picking] the best squad available. We’re going to every qualifier to put in great performances,” the Caltex Socceroos boss said on his side’s first qualifier on home soil.

“And it’s time these boys got ruthless. We’ve dominated so many game since I’ve been in charge and it is time that we finish teams off.

The Caltex Socceroos open their qualifying campaign next month with a clash away in Kuwait.

That’s the first of eight FIFA World Cup™ qualifying matches over the next 12 months.

The Caltex Socceroos have been drawn in Group B for the Asian Qualifiers against Kuwait, Jordan, Nepal and Chinese Taipei.

Arnold is currently in Europe, four weeks into a scouting mission to assess Australia’s pool of young talent.

One of the 56-year-old’s main focuses since taking the national team reins has been assembling a depth of players to call from during what is sure to be an arduous World Cup qualifying journey.
