“It’s been an honour’: McCaskill lauds 'world-class' Sydney teammates after Grand Final triumph

She was the star of the show but Savannah McCaskill was having none of it in the aftermath of Sydney FC’s stunning Westfield W-League Championship win.

The American striker scored twice and came up with an assist as the Sky Blues outshot Perth Glory 4-2 at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Far from basking in her own glory however, McCaskill instead took time to praise her teammates after they came from third to win an unlikely Championship.

“It’s amazing, it’s just such a great feeling for this team to be able to win the final after a roller-coaster season,” McCaskill told w-league.com.au post-match.

“We put it together at the right moment but this team has worked so hard all season no matter what, if we dropped a game here or there they’ve just come back resilient and kept working and it’s a testament to every single one of the girls on this team.”

The on-loan Sky Blue FC player is in her first season in the Westfield W-League and said it was an experience she would cherish.

“It’s been an honour to be able to train and play with some of the best players in the world and every single person showed up today, it’s what we needed to be able to beat a great side like Perth so it was good,” she said.

“In the first minute and a half I hit one off the crossbar that I should have put in the back of the net so I was able to kind of redeem myself which I was happy about.

“Medals at this level are few and far between so every single one is as special as anything you could ever do so I’m definitely enjoying the moment right now.”
