'Inspirational, gutsy and all class’: How social media reacted to Matildas’ epic comeback against Brazil

The Matildas displayed all their fighting qualities as they came from two goals down to record a thrilling 3-2 win over Brazil and kick-start their 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign.

Caitlin Foord and Chloe Logarzo struck either side of the break to level the scores before a Monica own goal midway through the second half was enough for the Matildas to record a memorable victory.

It was only the second time in FIFA Women’s World Cup history a team had come from two goals down to win, matching Sweden’s 3-2 win over Germany back in 1995.

And understandably there was plenty of buzz on social media as the players, media and even the prime minister reacted to the win.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison was quick to offer his congratulations on the result that has sparked the Matildas' World Cup campaign.


The Matildas players were also understandably elated with the result, with skipper Sam Kerr leading the praise of her side.
