'13 years in the making!' - How social media reacted to the Matildas' big announcement

The excitement soon spread on social media as Australian football fans found out their Westfield Matildas would be returning home in only 10 weeks' time.

Head coach Ante Milicic, Captain Sam Kerr and company are set to square off against Chile in a two-match series, in Sydney and Adelaide, in November.

And to think it all started with a quick exchange on Twitter between the Chile and Westfield Matildas social media teams!

That prompted the official announcement: two games in four days. Westfield Matildas v Chile!

The two matches will be historic events for different reasons. Not only is it the first time Adelaide will host the Westfield Matildas since 2006, but also the first international football match ever to be played at Parramatta's new stadium.

Of course, the Westfield Matildas players were overjoyed when they knew they would be coming home to play in front of their own fans.

And, the announcement was soon a big deal around the nation.
