Great A-League goals: Tarek’s solo stunner

Tarek Elrich’s incredible solo run and goal for Adelaide United against Melbourne City at Coopers in late April this year made headlines around the world.

Some even suggested it might be a contender for FIFA’s Puskas Award, which recognises the year’s best goal from around the world.

Fox Sports Latin America asked if Elrich’s goal against City was as good as Diego Maradona’s famous solo run in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final win over England.

In the UK the Metro ran a similar line on his goal, suggesting it could be a Puskas nominee for goal of the year. (http://metro.co.uk/2015/04/26/puskas-contender-tarek-elrich-scores-this-outrageous-solo-goal-5168395/)

And Argentina’s Spanish language newspaper La Voz del Interior also trumpeted it as a goal of the year contender.

Fox Sports analyst and ex-EPL goalkeeper Mark Bosnich argued the goal deserves worldwide recognition.

“For me, Tarek Elrich goal [is the] goal of the season,” Bosnich said on Fox Sports’ Matchday Saturday.

“If that was someone in any of the big European leagues, we’d be hailing it for two or three weeks.”

The goal, of course, sent Twitter into a frenzy.

So here it is to enjoy one more time.
