Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson is happy with his team's first preseason run-out, despite Glory losing 1-0 to South African side Amazulu.

Ferguson gave a first view of his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with midfield trio Adrian Zahra, Nicky Ward and Chris Harold supporting lone striker Travis Dodd.

Glory did put the hosts under significant pressure, but it Amazulu scored the only goal of the game, with midfielder Bongane Mbhele speeding past the Perth defence and beating Danny Vukovic at his near post in the 37th minute.

"I thought it was a pretty reasonable display and I was pleased with the fitness levels of our boys," Ferguson said after the game.

“The opposition was good, but we put in a great effort and results are not the be all and end all at this stage.

“Getting our fitness levels up and working on combinations is what we-re about at the moment."
