Glory to host EPL giants Chelsea at new Perth Stadium

Perth Glory will play host to English Premier League giants Chelsea FC in a friendly match later this year at the new Optus Stadium.

The club confirmed on Thursday that Glory will line-up against Antonio Conte's men on Monday, July 23rd.

The date was revealed by WA Tourism Minister Paul Papalia at a press conference held at Optus Stadium earlier today.

Chelsea were represented by their former goalkeeper and Socceroos legend Mark Schwarzer, while ex-club skipper and current Head of Football Jacob Burns and CEO Peter Filopoulos headed up Glory's delegation at the well-attended event.

"This international friendly between Perth Glory and Chelsea, is a huge coup for Western Australian and football fans throughout Australia and Asia," said Filopoulos.

"It is also an enormous opportunity for our club to play in front of a large attendance at the new, world class Optus Stadium in its rectangular configuration against a prestigious international football club in Chelsea.

"The scheduling of this game is ideally placed and the club will be using it as a platform from which to build its pre-season preparations for the 2018 FFA Cup and 2018/19 Hyundai A-League season."

Chelsea boasts the likes of Belgian superstar Eden Hazard, England defender Gary Cahill, Brazilian attacker Willian and Spaniard Cesc Fabregas.
