Five-star Kerr wins two NWSL awards this week

Sam Kerr’s domination of the National Women’s Soccer League has continued with the Westfield Matildas skipper taking out not one, but two awards from the last week.

The Chicago Red Stars striker was named the NWSL Player of the Week for her outstanding display in her side’s 2-0 win over Utah Royals over the weekend.

The 25-year-old scored Chicago’s opening goal as they extended their winning run to four games in the NWSL.

It’s the fifth time this season Kerr has taken out the Player of the Week award, while she has also been selected in the Team of the Month in April, May and July.

Not to be content with just that accolade, Kerr’s early strike against Utah was also voted the Goal of the Week.

Kerr pounced on the rebound after her own header was saved by Royals goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart.

It was the Australian superstar's 12th goal of the campaign to sit four goals clear at the top of the Golden Boot race ahead of North Carolina Courage forward Kristen Hamilton.

Kerr is bidding for a hat-trick of NWSL Golden Boots awards this season.

The Red Stars are next in action on Sunday (AEST), when they take on Washington Spirit who boast Westfield Matildas trio Chloe Logarzo, Elise Kellond-Knight and Amy Harrison.
