FIFA Women's World Cup trophy to visit Australia on world tour

Every nation will be fighting for the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy when the big tournament kicks off in June.

But before the Westfield Matildas head to France for football’s showpiece event, you’ll have your own chance to get your hands on the coveted prize.

Launched in Paris today by American star Kristine Lilly and Bayern Munich defender Laura Georges, the trophy will make its way over to Sydney on 31 March.

While on its two-month tour, the trophy – last hoisted by America in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup – will visit all 24 participating member associations across six continents.

On its adventure, the trophy will be accompanied by former England international Alex Scott, Caltex Socceroos legend Tim Cahill as well as the likes of Aya Miyama, Marcel Desailly and Esteban Cambiasso as part of a special Legends Squad.

Details on when and where the trophy will be on display in Sydney will be announced in the coming days.
