The match is sure to have some added spice with a host of former Sky Blues switching to the Red and Blacks in the off-season, as well as former Sydney FC coach Dan Barrett.

And Thursday Night Football is a feature of the new draw, with 13 of the 14 rounds to be played as stand-alone fixtures on that day of the week.

The opening round also throws up a triple-header on Sunday, October 28 with defending Premiers Brisbane Roar hosting Perth Glory, three-time Champions Melbourne City traveling to Canberra United, while Melbourne Victory does battle with Newcastle Jets.

There will also be two matches played in prime time on Friday night throughout the season, including a mouth-watering Melbourne Derby at AAMI Park in Round 3, November 16.

Another feature of the draw sees games taken to regional areas, with Morwell, Queanbeyan and Wollongong to host matches during the 14 round regular season.

“It is our desire to make the Westfield W-League the football league of choice for the best female footballers in the world and football fans,” FFA's Head of Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League, Greg O'Rourke said.

“To help achieve this, we set ourselves the goal of ensuring that all matches for the upcoming Westfield W-League season will be either broadcast or streamed in Australia, as well as introducing prime-time stand-alone fixtures to showcase the players and Clubs.

“For the first time in the history of the Westfield W-League we have included a break for the FIFA Women’s International Match window in November when the Westfield Matildas are scheduled to play Chile in Penrith and Newcastle.

“I am confident that this season of the Westfield W-League is set to be one of the best,” concluded O’Rourke.
