Red Star remains unbeaten after 20 matches and sit atop the ladder, thanks in no small part to Degenek’s career-best form at the heart of defence.
The 24-year old arrived in Belgrade mid-year and immediately made an impact, helping his side qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage, their first appearance for 26 years.
The defender was front and centre as Red Star pulled off one of the shocks of the tournament, defeating Liverpool 2-0 at the Rajko Mitic Stadium last month.
With 10 regular season matches to play and a nine-point lead over second-placed Radnicki, Red Star travel to Cukaricki on Sunday morning (AEDT) looking to move a step closer to wrapping up back-to-back titles.
Degenek was one of five Red Star players selected in the Superliga's best XI.
