Speaking after he signed his Al-Hilal contract in Dubai, Degenek said he was delighted to have joined the powerhouse club.

“I’m very happy and very honoured to be part of the big club, the biggest club in Asia,” he said in a video posted on Al-Hilal’s Twitter page.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all the fans, to meeting my new teammates, the club, and to winning a lot of trophies and being successful.

“I hope you’re all waiting for me and I’m very excited to come out and see you and play well.”

Degenek progressed through the youth ranks in Germany at Stuttgart before joining 1860 Munich in 2015.

He then made the move to Japan, playing for Yokohama F.Marinos in the J-League.

He impressed for the Japanese outfit, attracting the interest of Red Star Belgrade who Degenek has represented with distinction, particularly in the UEFA Champions League.

Al-Hilal - reigning champions in Saudi Arabia - sit top of the Pro League after 16 matches, three points clear of Brad Jones’ Al-Nassr.

Among Degenek’s teammates at Al-Hilal will be Bafetimbi Gomis, Andre Carrillo, Omar Abdulrahman and Ali Al Habsi.

Al-Hilal are also a regular contender in the AFC Champions League and lost the final in both 2014 and 2017.

Hyundai A-League outfit Western Sydney Wanderers beat them in the 2014 decider.
