Debutants hand Brisbane Roar passage to the Round of 16

Brisbane Roar have booked a spot in the FFA Cup Round of 16 for a third time courtesy of a 3-0 win over Peninsula Power at Moreton Daily Stadium on Tuesday night.

Goals from debutants Matti Steinmann, Luke Ivanovic, and Juan Lescano secured victory for the Roar against the NPL Queensland league leaders.

Roar broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Steinmann fired a first time effort into into the back of the net after Rahmat Akbari dispossessed Joshua Woolley and thundered a strike against the post.

Ivanovic doubled Roar’s lead 12 minutes later with a header after Jack Hingert’s cross found him unmarked at the back post.

Substitute Lescano iced the result in the 87th minute when he latched onto a stray Trent McEvoy back pass and finished to round out the 3-0 score line.

Roar are the first side to book their spot in the next round, with Round of 32 action continuing on Wednesday night as Edge Hill United take on Gold Coast Knights in Cairns.
