De Vanna sets US football alight

Lisa de Vanna has etched her name on highlight reels around the world with a sensational bicycle kick goal for Sky Blue FC. Watch the goal here.

Lisa de Vanna has a flair for the spectacular, the last time Australia saw the Westfield Matildas striker she was incensed as Perth were bundled out of the Westfield W-League finals on penalties, now she is being heralded for scoring one of the most amazing goals women-s football has ever seen.

De Vanna playing for Sky Blue FC in the National Womens Soccer League in the US struck a stunning bicycle kick while running to a hanging cross that had been played into the area.

The ball behind her, de Vanna turned her back on goal and acrobatically connecting with the overhead strike that sent US sport websites into a meltdown.

De Vanna said she was just as surprised to score that goal as those who were fortunate enough to see it in person

"I was a bit overwhelmed and shocked from it," de Vanna said.

"I didn't even realise it went in. I just saw Danesha [Adam]'s face and she was so surprised and I just looked up and seen it went in the back of the net and I was just thinking, "oh my god I've just pulled something incredible."

The goal was her first of two in Sky Blue FC's 5-1defeat of Kyah Simon-s Boston Breakers.

Sky Blue coach Jim Gabarra said the bicycle kick is one of the best he has ever seen and belongs in the ESPN archives.

"I think everyone was just stunned by it. Lisa start to do a bike and you're like 'what are you doing' and next thing you know the ball's in the back of the net. It's certainly SportsCentre material and one of the best goals you'll ever see in the women's game," Gabarra said.

The Westfield Matildas play New Zealand on June 16 at McKellar Park, Canberra.
