Danny Vukovic returns to the Central Coast Mariners

Socceroos goalkeeper Danny Vukovic has returned to the Central Coast Mariners for the upcoming A-League Men campaign.

The 37-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that sees him return to the club where he made his A-League debut and 104 appearances from 2005 to 2010.

Vukovic enjoyed a successful spell with Belgian club Genk before moving to NEC Nijmegen in June last year but he did not make an appearance for the Dutch Eredivisie club.

Having been a part of the Socceroos 2018 squad in Russia and with a World Cup on the horizon, the chance to return home was too good to refuse.

"It's just amazing. I still can't believe it's happening but it's very exciting because it's the club where it all began for me and it really does feel like I'm coming home," Vukovic told ccmariners.com.au

The supporters have always had a special place in my heart and I honestly can't wait to get back up there and start playing some games in front of them. We had a great relationship when I was first there and I have no doubt it will be the same when I come back.

"I think being able to play some games in the lead-up to the World Cup can only help my chances to go but it's not going to be easy to get in there. I'm hoping that I can hit the ground running with the boys in the blue and yellow and hopefully, I can show the selectors that I should be there with the rest of the boys at the World Cup."
