There are few Hyundai A-League opponents capable of eluding Bruno Fornaroli’s deadly gaze, but by hook or crook, Brisbane Roar have managed it.
Melbourne City’s Uruguayan talisman has found the back of the net against Brisbane just once in six Hyundai A-League games, a somewhat surprising figure by Fornaroli’s incredible standards.
But after opening his account for the new season in City’s commanding 2-0 win over Wellington Phoenix last time out, Fornaroli may just be rising ominously through the gears.
Brisbane will host City in a bumper rebel Female Football Round clash on Saturday night, which will be broadcast live on 10 Boss and FOX SPORTS 505 from 7.30pm AEDT.
“It’s a great feeling to score again, when you score at home” Fornaroli told Melbourne City’s official website.
“Now it will give me a little bit more confidence and I’m ready to play in this game [against Brisbane].
“I think we [will] try to play more in front and to create more football, and after the loss against Sydney we need to recover quickly [to] play at home again.
“We did a great job [against Wellington Phoenix in Round 4], everyone worked hard and I think we played better football. Now we need to follow that way.
“The new players are doing very well, but we have to do better every game together. I think against Brisbane it will be a good game.”

Fornaroli may not terrorise the Roar defence to the same extent as he has to the rest of the Hyundai A-League, but his incredible match-winning goal against John Aloisi’s side in August’s FFA Cup 2018 clash could prove to be a turning point.
The City hot-shot ranks that 120th minute volley against the Roar as one of the best he’s ever scored in his career, although admits Brisbane will be a different proposition this time around.
“Lucky, we don’t have to play another 120!” he said.
“But it’s different now because everyone has a style of play [and] more minutes.
“Brisbane played very well the last game so we have to be careful and think about what we can do.
“I think we are ready.”
