The Asian Football Confederation has confirmed the 2023 AFC Asian Cup will be held in China.
The announcement was made at the AFC’s Extraordinary Congress in Paris on Tuesday night (AEST).
China were the only remaining bidder to host the event after the Korea Republic withdrew its bid recently to focus on trying to host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The 2019 quarter-finalists will host the event for the second time in their history, after previously staging the tournament in 2004.
In that year China made the final – their best-ever result at the AFC Asian Cup – losing to Japan 3-1.
Qatar are the current AFC Asian Cup holders after defeating the Samurai Blue 3-1 in the final earlier this year in the UAE.
