Charlestown City's Milicevic hangs up the boots

Ahead of his club’s tricky FFA Cup clash against Victorian NPL leaders Heidelberg United, former Caltex Socceroo and Hyundai A-League defender Ljubo Milicevic has announced his retirement.

Milicevic suffered a season-ending knee injury recently, and at 37-years-old has decided to hang up the boots.

He made the announcement in a long post on Instagram.

A gifted defender who could also play in midfield, Milicevic played eight times for the Caltex Socceroos and also represented Australia at U20 and U23 level.

As well as a long career in Europe, playing in the UEFA Champions League with FC Thun, played for Melbourne Victory, Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory.

The Blues, who play in the NPL in Northern NSW, are in the FFA Cup Round of 32 for the first time and face a tough ask against the ‘Bergers.

The match will be played at Olympic Village, kicking off at 7.30pm AEST.
