Championship wrap: Luongo scores in QPR’s impressive comeback

Caltex Socceroos midfielder Massimo Luongo scored a classy goal as QPR came-from-behind to snatch a 2-2 draw against promotion candidates Fulham in the English Championship overnight.

Fulham, unbeaten in their last 15 matches, led 2-0 heading into first-half stoppage-time before Luongo pounced to swing the momentum of the match.

A high free-kick into the box was knocked down by Matt Smith, with Luongo controlling the ball with his head before swiveling and volleying the ball in one motion to fire home.

It was the 25-year-old’s fifth goal of the Championship campaign.

QPR then ensured they would leave Craven Cottage with a point when Pawel Wszolek pulled them level eight minutes from time.

The result sees QPR remain in 15th spot on 47 points, well clear of the relegation zone with eight games to go.

Elsewhere, recalled Caltex Socceroo James Meredith played another 90 minutes as Millwall continued their charge to the playoffs with a 2-0 win at Barnsley.

Goals in either half to Lee Gregory and Ben Marshall helped the Lions make it six away wins on the spin.

Tim Cahill was again a late substitute, replacing Steve Morison in the 90th-minute.

Millwall up are to 10th spot on the ladder and just four points behind Middlesbrough in the sixth and final playoff position.

Bailey Wright’s Bristol City also strengthened their promotion hopes with a 1-0 victory over Ipswich.

Wright played a full game for the Robins, who took all three points thanks to Milan Duric’s second-half strike.

After a concerning form slump of late, Bristol City is now seventh and just one point outside the playoff places.

But there was disappointment for Jackson Irvine’s Hull City, as they were trounced 3-0 against Birmingham City, with the Aussie midfielder replaced after 57 minutes.

Caltex Socceroos skipper Mile Jedinak watched from the bench as his Aston Villa slumped to back-to-back defeats, this time a 1-0 loss at lowly Bolton.
