Carrusca’s FFA Cup rabona has fans abuzz

Westfield FFA Cup fans are saying Marcelo Carrusca’s "rabona" assist was one of the greatest they’ve seen as his reigning Cup champions Adelaide United came from behind to defeat Sydney FC in the round of 16 thriller on Wednesday night.

Carrusca again showed why he is one of the most gifted players in Australia, producing an outrageous piece of skill to help the Cup holders to progress into the FFA Cup quarter finals.

The Argentine playmaker inspired the Reds to a late 2-1 extra-time win over Sydney FC with a magic assist for Dylan McGowan’s winning goal.

Carrusca seemed to be well-marked on the edge of the box when found by Tarek Elrich but he audaciously produced a rabona to cross the ball into the box.

The ball evaded both Reds striker Eli Babalj and Sydney ‘keeper Vedran Janjetovic allowing McGowan to tap into an empty net. It was some moment for the fans.

For those who don’t know, a “rabona” is the Spanish word for ribbon and denotes when a player deftly wraps one leg around another to play the ball. It requires great skill and confidence and can often deceive defenders.

It was a moment of pure genius from the 31-year-old and drew plenty of reaction and praise on Twitter, including one fan who cheekily suggested EPL club Spurs need to sign the Reds man.
