Scottish Premiership club Hibernian has announced the signing of Caltex Socceroo Jamie Maclaren on a season-long loan from German club SV Darmstadt 98.
The 25-year-old played the back-end of last season in Scotland, scoring eight goals in 13 games for Hibs as they finished fourth in their first season back in the top division.
It was that good form which seen Maclaren picked for the Caltex Socceroos 23-man squad which travelled to Russia for the FIFA World Cup™, but he didn't see any game time.
With the 2019 AFC Asian Cup on the horizon, Maclaren will be hoping that he can play himself into a position where he can't be overlooked by new Australia boss Graham Arnold.
“A few factors drove me to come back," said Maclaren, speaking to club media.
"With the success that we had last season it just breeds confidence throughout the squad and, for me, scoring goals was important.
“After having the World Cup experience I want to kick on. This is the best club for me to be at to kick on.
“I think having a manager like Neil Lennon who backs me and every player in the squad, that’s who you want to play for. And the fans have also been on at me on social media since the break, so it’s nice to be wanted and valued.
“I’m just glad I’m here.”
