Brisbane unveil maroon kit ahead of Sydney FC clash

The sport might be different but the state against state rivalry will be on show this Friday night for Brisbane Roar’s Hyundai A-League clash against Sydney FC.

For the first time this season, Brisbane will be dropping their traditional orange in favour of maroon, the colour synonymous with Queensland’s State of Origin rugby league team.

It is the third campaign straight that the Roar are wearing maroon against Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium.

Brisbane-born skipper Matt McKay wants his teammates to harness the fighting spirit the jersey represents when Roar welcome the Sky Blues for Round 23’s curtain-raiser.

“I’m a proud Queenslander so to have this as our third strip is pretty cool and to wear it when we’re playing Sydney FC – Queensland vs New South Wales, it’s a great touch," McKay told the club’s website.

"We’ll be channelling all that Queensland spirit throughout the team this Friday night.

“It’s come through in the Brisbane Roar as well, the never-say-die attitude where you can win a game late on or come from a goal behind to equalise and that’s part of what’s made our club so great and of course the state.”
