'I'm back': Berisha sends warning to Hyundai A-League rivals

Western United striker Besart Berisha has a message for defenders all around the Hyundai A-League: he's back. 

He has, of course, been back all season after ending his one-season absence from the Hyundai A-League, but only now after scoring three goals in his past two games - including a classy finish against his former side Brisbane Roar on Friday night - does he feel he's approaching the peak of his powers once more.

"I really feel 'Bes' is coming back," Berisha told FOX Sports after United's 2-0 win over the Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

"I feel great... I definitely feel the touch, I am back in the game.

"It took me a little while but (now) I feel good."

Berisha scored his fifth goal of the Hyundai A-League campaign against the Roar on Friday night, continuing his lethal form against his former sides after scoring a brace against Melbourne Victory last weekend.

The goals come as a welcome relief for Berisha who scored twice in the opening four rounds of the season but couldn't find the back of the net again until United's Round 9 clash with the Victory, where he regained his goalscoring touch once more.

But his fifth goal of the season may have never came if the 34-year-old had decided not to play through an injury picked up in the warm up before his side's game against the Roar.

"I was so close not to play at all in this game," Berisha said.

"In the beginning warming up I had a little problem, I don’t know what it was but I just thought to myself ‘lets get through it, the boys need me’.

"I’m so happy I made it through to seventy minutes, but we’ll see what happens (with the injury)."

As Berisha gets back to his best so does a United outfit which looked bereft of confidence through their early season form slump. 

United went goalless and winless through Rounds 6-8 but have turned it all around with successive wins over the Victory and Roar.

Berisha says an uplift in discipline all over the park has been the main cause of United's return to form, as his side moves temporarily into third place on the Hyundai A-League table.

"We did really well today, I was so happy we won," Berisha said.

"I am really happy with our discipline, and we have to be (disciplined).

"We saw when we lost three times we were all over the park, but not really staying disciplined and in structure.

"I thought we did really well against Victory and Brisbane, we stayed disciplined and did our jobs.

"We know exactly what to do when we have the ball; try to counter and of course we scored the goals against Victory and here (tonight).

"I’m so happy because we’re doing the job.

"Everybody is passionate and everybody wants to win the game.

"Everybody has heart in this club and we try, we fight and I think we have a great group."

Berisha and United now turn their attention to a Round 11 matchup with Western Sydney Wanderers next Friday night (7:30pm AEDT).
