'Beyond excited': How social media reacted to the Westfield Matildas squad reveal

So, we finally know who will be representing Australia at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.

On Tuesday, head coach Ante Milicic announced the 23 players who will pull on the green and gold jersey for the Westfield Matildas in France.

There was plenty of reaction on social media as players, journalists and even pollies reacted to the news.

Leader of the opposition Bill Shorten was quick to cast his vote for those chosen to head to France.


Hayley Raso was understandably emotional and proud after making the final squad, while 
Amy Harrison and Ellie Carpenter were also delighted to get the call for their first World Cup.

 

 

Fox Sports caller Brenton Speed reserved special praise for one Aivi Luik.


Westfield W-League Champions Sydney FC had five players named in Milicic's squad. 


While Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove also had a message for the Westfield Matildas.


Safe to say Football Victoria CEO Peter Filopolous has a favourite player.


Short but simple from former Caltex Socceroos captain Craig Foster.


Journalists Kelly Fuller, Pete Smith and Tara Rushton were happy with the final make-up of the squad.
