We continue our ‘best of’ the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season with a look at some of the most spectacular free-kicks across the 14 rounds.
Dead-ball situations are always full of possibility and the four examples below certainly made their respective matches come to life.

Alanna Kennedy – Sydney FC
The first of Alanna Kennedy’s magnificent double is just about as unstoppable as free-kicks get.
With the dead ball placed just outside the penalty area and almost in line with the left-hand upright, Kennedy strikes it with her right foot and it curls towards the top left corner, just nicking the post on its way in.
Safe to say Perth Glory goalkeeper Eliza Campbell is absolutely powerless in the situation.
Carson Pickett - Brisbane Roar
One from early on in the season and not a traditional free-kick by any means, Carson Pickett’s ultimately match-deciding effort makes the list for sheer ingenuity.
With the ball located on the right-hand edge of the area, Pickett decided against putting a cross in, instead opting to shoot.
Her effort was a low-driven shot past the wall and towards the unprotected near post where it snuck in despite the best efforts of Western Sydney Wanderers custodian Jada Whyman.
Alanna Kennedy – Sydney FC
With her side 3-1 down and under 10 minutes left on the clock, Kennedy stepped up to this set-piece knowing she simply must score.
A couple of yards outside the top of the box, the Westfield Matildas defender unleashed yet another pin-point strike to put her side back in it.
While not as well-placed, the effort still had enough rise and dip to evade the leap of Casey Dumont in goals for Melbourne Victory.
Elise Kellond-Knight - Melbourne City
While Melbourne City’s Westfield W-League campaign may not have hit the heights of recent years, there was still a handful of highlights for the defending Champions.
Away to eventual grand finalists Perth, Tameka Butt won a free-kick about five yards outside the box.
Up stepped Elise Kellond-Knight and sent her left-footed effort curling into the top right corner, just evading the fingertips of the diving Eliza Campbell.
