Bedlam! FFA Cup's 12-goal Sunshine Derby spectacular!

The winning coach described the scenes as bedlam after one of the most incredible Westfield FFA Cup matches in history when Melbourne's Sunshine Derby ended 6-6 last weekend.

Local rivals North Sunshine Eagles and Sunshine George Cross will go down in Cup history as being part of the greatest ever Cup game when the nine-man-Eagles came from two-goals down in extra-time to draw 6-6 and then win 4-2 on penalties.

Following a crazy 120 minutes at Chaplin Reserve plus the shootout, the winning coach was left to ponder one of the most incredible afternoons in his career.

“It was an unbelievable effort. To go down 6-4 in extra-time, the boys dug deep and somehow found a way to come back,” Eagles coach Paul Donnelly told www.theffacup.com.au.

“I’ve been involved in football for a long time but never have I seen anything like it.”

And for good reason. What took course over the 120 minutes is what makes the sudden-death nature of the Westfield FFA Cup so exciting.

The Eagles – who play in Victoria’s State League One – went behind inside three minutes to their NPL1 rivals but soon took control of the match.

Goals from Nicholas Cullen (two), Miles Shannon and Paul Dickie had them 4-1 up before Sunshine George Cross got one back before the break through Anthony Cassar.

But the drama was just getting started.
