The Beach Socceroos have opened their Asian Beach Cup campaign in emphatic fashion defeating Vietnam 7-2 in their first match of the tournament.

The Beach Socceroos have opened their Asian Beach Cup campaign in emphatic fashion defeating Vietnam 7-2 in their first match of the tournament. Doubles from Jim Bakis and Ricardo Da Silva helped the Beach Socceroos take the top position of group B.

Vietnam were actually the first to score with Phouc finding the back of the net in the first period. Unanswered goals to Peter Crevani, Bakis and Michael Matricciani helped the Beach Socceroos take a commanding lead up to the end of the second period.

Daniel Atkins opened the third period with wonderful volley. A minute later Bakis completed his double taking the score to 5-1. Phuc shyly replied for the Vietnamese, but Da Silva, on his international debut, scored twice late to underline an impressive opening result for the Beach Socceroos.

The Beach Socceroos will play their next match against the UAE on Saturday 13 July (Kick-off 4:00pm local, 6:00pm AEST).

The Beach Socceroos need to finish at the top of the group to face the winner of Group A in the Final on Sunday 14 July (Kick-off 5:15pm local, 7:15pm AEST)
