Basil Scarsella

Born in Adelaide in 1955, Basil Scarsella has enjoyed a long and successful involvement with Australian soccer. Scarsella began his senior playing career with Campbelltown City club in Adelaide where he was eventually made a club Player Life Member. After retiring as a player, Scarsella moved into administration where he rose to deputy chairman of the South Australian Federation before his appointment to the Australian Soccer Federation executive in 1989. He served as an ASF Commissioner until elected deputy chairman in 1995 and Soccer Australia chairman in 1998. Scarsella was team manager of the Socceroos for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and was made a Life Member of the South Australian Federation. In 2001 he stepped down from Soccer Australia to become president of the Oceania Football Confederation.
