Aussies Abroad: UWCL campaign kicks off for Arsenal & PSV

The first of our Aussies' UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying rounds kick off tonight. With plenty of Matildas set to be in action, here is a wrap of all the games.

Journey 2023

Arsenal v Okzhetpes

The Gunners kick off their UWCL 1st round against opponents from Kazakhstan, FC Okzhetpes. Arsenal qualified for the first round after finishing third in the 2020/21 FA WSL season.

After an injury-ridden 2020/21 season, Steph Catley is looking to have a pivotal role in Arsenal's qualification for the next round. With the likes of Caitlin Foord and Lydia Williams in the squad, the game is set to be an exciting one for Matildas fans.

With new signings of superstars Nikita Parris and Mana Iwabuchi, the Gunners are hoping to improve on their 2019/20 UWCL campaign, defeated in the quarter-finals by Paris Saint Germain F.C.

Arsenal v Okzhetpes kicks off tonight at 8pm AEST

PSV v Lokomotiv

Amy Harrison's PSV will kick off their UWCL campaign against Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow. PSV qualified for the first round after finishing second in the championship play-offs.

PSV were knocked out of the 2020/21 UWCL competition by eventual champions FC Barcelona.

Harrison made 19 appearances for PSV in their quest to qualify for the UWCL, picking up one assist along the way.

With Sari van Veenendaal, the Netherlands starting goalkeeper and new signings of Portuguese striker Ana Capeta and Maruschka Waldus, PSV are set to make a splash in the UWCL this season.

A win for PSV and Arsenal would see the two teams go head to head in the next UWCL game.

Celtic v Levante

Jacynta Galabadaarachchi's Celtic will kick off their UWCL campaign against Spanish side Levante. Celtic qualified for the first round after finishing second in the Scottish Women's Premier League.
