Aussies Abroad Preview: Socceroos in action across the world

Plenty of Socceroos will be in action across the world this weekend! Read on below for the Aussies Abroad Preview.

Maty Ryan will be gearing up for Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday morning as they prepare to go head to head against West Bromwich Albion at 4:30am.

The Seagulls haven’t tasted victory since their second round win at Newcastle however their three game slump ended last time out when a last gasp equaliser saw them take a share of the spoils against Crystal Palace.

Ajdin Hrustic has a tough away trip in the Bundesliga on Sunday morning as his Eintracht Frankfurt prepare for a blockbuster clash with Bayern Munich which is set to kick off at 12:30am

Eintracht sit two places below the reigning champions in 4th position however unlike their Bavarian opposition – they still have zero defeats to their name.

In the Chinese Super League, Aaron Mooy and his Shanghai SIPG will be coming up against Shanghai Shenhua in the second leg of their playoff at 10:35pm on Friday.

This battle is hanging in the balance after the first half of the playoff ended in a 0-0 stalemate last Sunday.

In the Danish Superligaen, Awer Mabil’s Midtjylland are set to take on league leaders Brondby at 3am on Sunday.

Mabil’s side have been on a spectacular league run which has seen them remain unbeaten since the opening round of the campaign however they were soundly beaten 4-0 against Atalanta in their first UEFA Champions League tie on Thursday morning.

Brondby sit top of the table after the first five matches of the season however their lead was cut to just one point after they suffered their first defeat at the hands of SonderjyskE last Sunday.

To the English Championship where Harry Souttar picked up an assist for Stoke City in their 2-2 draw with Barnsley on Thursday morning.

His inch perfect through ball from just within the opposition half found the feet of Tyrese Campbell who made no mistake with the finish.

However a point for the Potters has seen them drop to 10th on the table ahead of their meeting with Brentford at 1am on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Massimo Luongo will be gearing up for Sheffield Wednesday when they face off against Luton at 1am on Sunday.

The Owls enter this fixture off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Brentford.

Heading to Scotland where Martin Boyle and his Hibernian will face off against Kilmarnock at 1am on Sunday.

Hibs are locked in a four-way battle with Rangers, Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the ladder.

Sunday’s opponents sit just behind them in 5th place however the men from Easter Road hold a seven point advantage over them.

These two side met in the first round back at the beginning of August where Boyle was the hero as he notched a brace in their 2-1 triumph.

Elsewhere, Tom Rogic will be hoping to feature for Celtic in their crunch clash against Aberdeen at 11:00pm on Sunday.

His side will still be reeling from their 2-0 derby defeat against Rangers last time out which has given their rivals a four point lead at the top of the table.

Danny Vukovic will be in between the sticks for Genk when they travel to Gent on Tuesday with proceedings set to get underway from 6:45am.

Vuka made a much anticipated return to the starting line-up last week after a three week absence in which he recovered from COVID-19.

His side are slowly beginning their ascent up the ladder – currently occupying 10th position with 13 points collected from their nine matches.

In the Greek Super League, James Jeggo’s Aris Thessaloniki make the trip to AE Larissa at 2:15am on Sunday.

Aris’ undefeated record is still intact while they have also collected back-to-back cleansheets in their consecutive 1-0 wins.

Larissa have not enjoyed the best of starts and are sitting in second last with one point to their name.

Apostolos Giannou will also be taking to the pitch when his OFI Crete visit Asteras Tripolis at 1am on Monday.

This will be an interesting indicator of Crete’s credentials with 6th placed Tripolis just one point better off than Giannou’s side.

The Aussie striker is yet to nail down a place in the starting eleven but could have his say in this contest if he manages to come off the bench and get on the scoresheet.

Over to the Netherlands where Daniel Arzani’s FC Utrecht are set to entertain FC Twente at 3:45am on Sunday.

Consecutive stalemates in the Dutch top flight sees Arzani’s club occupy a mid-table position however they have a game in hand over most sides.

Socceroos defender Milos Degenek will be lining up in the heart of defence for FK Crvena Zvezda on Monday when they entertain Javor at 2am.

Degenek’s men dropped their first points of the season last time out when they drew 1-1 with 2nd placed Partizan but that has put just one minor blemish on their outstanding record which reads: 10 victories, one draw and zero defeats.

They’ll be expected to come away with another three points this weekend with Javor sitting in 12th position in the 20-team competition.

Copa America 2020

In J League action, Mitch Langerak’s Nagoya Grampus went down 2-1 to Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday night.

They’ll need to regroup ahead of their next fixture which sees them take on last-placed Vegalta Sendai at 4pm on Saturday.

Thomas Deng will be available for Urawa Red Diamonds when they host Cerezo Osaka at 7pm on Saturday.

Deng has completed his three-match suspension following his red card against Nagoya at the beginning of October.

He returns to an Urawa outfit who are fresh off a 6-0 thrashing of Vegalta Sendai.

Their upcoming opponents will prove far trickier with the visitors situated in 2nd place while Deng’s side sit in 9th.

Korean-based Adam Taggart will be featuring for Suwon Bluewings on Friday when his side host second from bottom Seongnam FC at 9pm.

The Bluewings secured their top flight status last round and have a lot less on the line compared to Seongnam who are locked in a relegation battle with Incheon United.

In the English League One, Bailey Wright helped Sunderland register their fifth cleansheet of the campaign after they overcame Crewe Alexandra 1-0 at home on Wednesday morning.

Wright and his Black Cats have been in impeccable form and will be odds on favourites to take all three points from their next match when they welcome Portsmouth to the Stadium of Light at 1am on Sunday.

Kenny Dougall will be hoping to make his Blackpool debut when they face fellow strugglers MK Dons at 1am on Sunday.

Dougall’s new side have been in freefall of late, having picked up just the solitary league win this season which arrived back in round two.

However, it is not all doom and gloom for the Seasiders. If they manage to take all three points this weekend, they have a chance of moving out of the relegation places.

Heading to the German second division where Aussie winger Brandon Borrello will be featuring for Fortuna Dusseldorf when they go head to head against Hannover 96 at 10pm on Saturday.

With only one win collected from their first four fixtures, Borrello’s side are yet to kickstart their season.

The weekend’s trip north will not be made easier by the fact that Hannover are situated in 4th place but there is only a two point difference between the two teams.

Trent Sainsbury played a full match for for Kortrijk when they hosted Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League in a 3-1 loss on Saturday morning.
