Aussies Abroad | Schwarzer saves Fulham

Mark Schwarzer did what he is famous for and stopped a penalty as Fulham saw off a spirited Queens Park Rangers side.

Mark Schwarzer starred in Tuesday morning's Barclays Premier League clash for Fulham - but he was the only Aussie to make it onto the pitch in the EPL.

Australia's skipper against Oman saved a penalty against Queens Park Rangers in a 3-2 win.

But less than a week after Australia's dour performance caused grave concerns, the veteran keeper was the only Aussie Abroad to feature in England's top tier.

One positive, however, was Curtis Good being named on Newcastle United's bench for the clash with Manchester City, returning to St James' after his loan at Bradford City.

In the nPower Championship, Mile Jedinak's ordinary week got worse as his Crystal Palace side lost 4-0 to Birmingham City; Neil Kilkenny was similarly disappointed as Bristol City lost 3-0 to Derby County to remain bottom; Shane Lowry was highly impressive in Millwall's 1-0 win over Leicester and almost scored another spectacular free-kick; Scott McDonald couldn't change Middlesbrough's fortunes as they went down 3-2 to Wolverhampton and slipped further from the promotion places.

Around Europe, Tommy Oar came on as a second-half sub in FC Utrecht's 2-1 win over VV Venlo; while in Austria, James Holland's Austria Wien drew 1-1 with Red Bull Salzburg in a top-of-the-table clash.

It wasn't an easy week for our Socceroos. In Germany, Robbie Kruse's Fortuna Dusseldorf have slid into the relegation places again after a 4-1 loss, at home, to Bayer Leverkusen, but Kruse did continue his own good form creating his side's only goal.

Over in America, Tim Cahill lasted 58 minutes as New York skipper as they notched their first win of the year in a 2-1 win over Philadelphia Union.

In Asia, Alex Wilkinson was the only Aussie to play 90 minutes, but Jeonbuk Motors lost 2-1 to Suwon Bluewings (Eddy Bosnar was absent).

Ryan McGowan continues to progress in China, starting as Shandong Luneng beat Guangzhou R&F 2-0; Michael Marrone's Shanghai Shenxin drew 2-2 with Jiangsu Sainty; Jonas Salley played 90 minutes in midfield as Guizhou Renhe beat Wuhan Zall 2-1 and Erik Paartalu's Tianjin Teda drew 2-2 with Hangzhou.

Ryan Griffiths, recently signed from Newcastle Jets, scored in China's second division for Beijing Baxy in a 2-1 win over Chongqing.

In UAE, Alex Brosque got on the scoresheet as Al Ain overcame Al Shabab 2-1, netting a penalty; Dino Djulbic returned to the Middle East and helped keep a cleansheet as Al Wahda beat Dubba Al Fujairah 1-0, while Richard Porta lasted just 27 before succumbing to an injury as Dubai lost 2-1 to Ajman.

In Qatar, Sasa Ognenovski returned to the pitch as Umm Salal beat Qatar SC 3-1, but Matt Spiranovic only got 45 minutes as Al Arabi suffered a 4-1 loss to Lekhwiya.

Milan Susak, playing in Iran, scored the winning penalty in a shootout as Sepahan won through to the Hazfi Cup Final.
