Aussies Abroad: Rogic’s Celtic make history after Scottish Cup final triumph

Tom Rogic’s Celtic has defeated Hearts in the Scottish Cup Final overnight to complete a remarkable ‘Treble’ and confirm themselves as the undisputed kings of Scottish football.

The Bhoys were made to work hard for the win at Hampden Park though, falling behind early in the second half through a goal from Australian midfielder Ryan Edwards.

But Neil Lennon’s all-conquering side were level within 10 minutes as Odsonne Edouard tucked away a penalty just after the hour mark.

The French striker then completed the comeback eight minutes from when he raced onto Mikael Lustig’s header and surged clear before calmly slotting past the keeper.

“You’ll never see it again, so you could see the emotion and the tension in the game. They had to stretch themselves to the limits to win.

“In my career, to win the Treble was the Holy Grail and these guys have done it three years in a row, and it is unbelievable.”

Elsewhere, Caltex Socceroos winger Awer Mabil’s FC Midtjylland fell to a 2-1 defeat in the final game of their Danish Super League season.

Mabil started on the bench and came on for the last 22 minutes of the loss to Esbjerg, ending the campaign in second spot but 11 points behind champions FC Copenhagen.

The pacy winger will soon link up with the Caltex Socceroos for next month’s international friendly against Korea Republic in Busan.
