Aussies Abroad: Rogic shines for Celtic as Socceroos star across Europe and Asia

Tom Rogic was instrumental for Celtic in their 3-3 draw against Aberdeen overnight as a number of Socceroos took to the pitch across the globe.

In the Scottish Premiership, Rogic picked up two assists in his first start of the season for Celtic as they were held to a 3-3 draw against Aberdeen on Sunday night.

His pass from just over 20 yards out picked out Callum McGregor who slotted home to peg back the scoring at 1-1 in the 52nd minute.

The hosts found themselves 2-1 up before Leigh Griffiths’ curling finish flew into the top right corner after he was teed up by Rogic on 76 minutes.

Fast forward two minutes and Celtic took the lead for the first time in the encounter before the Socceroos midfielder was substituted on the 86th minute mark.

Unfortunately Aberdeen were able to snatch a point when they equalised from the spot on 90 minutes.

Elsewhere, Martin Boyle put in a full shift for Hibernian as they edged out Kilmarnock 1-0 on Sunday morning.

A Kevin Nisbet penalty just before the half hour mark gave Hibs all three points as they extend their unbeaten record to seven matches.

In the Chinese Super League, Aaron Mooy’s Shanghai SIPG booked their place in the semi-finals after they knocked out rivals Shanghai Shenhua on penalties in their do-or-die clash on Friday night.

The score was locked at 1-1 at fulltime as Hulk gave SIPG the lead via the penalty spot before the visitors forced the match into extra time thanks to their 91st minute leveller.

No one was able to find the winner in the allotted 30 minutes of extra time so the match was decided via a penalty shootout.

Mooy converted his penalty as his side won the shootout 5-4. They now turn their attention to the semi-final which will see them face off against Jiangsu Suning on Thursday night.

Harry Souttar played the full game in the heart of defence for Stoke City as they saw off Brentford 3-2 in their English Championship affair on Sunday morning.

The win is enough to see Souttar’s side rise two places on the table into eighth position.

Ajdin Hrustic was an unused substitute for Eintracht Frankfurt as they were soundly beaten 5-0 by Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Sunday morning.

The reigning champions stay top of the table despite the draw with 32 points from their 12 matches this season.

Mitch Langerak was in between the sticks for Nagoya Grampus as they recorded a 1-0 win against Vegalta Sendai in the J League on Saturday afternoon.

The shock win against 2nd placed Osaka was Urawa’s second consecutive win with their last league defeat coming almost a month ago.
