Aussies Abroad: Rogic and Boyle claim overnight wins in Scotland

It was four wins from four Socceroos in action abroad overnight with Tom Rogic and Martin Boyle both celebrating victories in the Scottish Premier League.

Eight-time straight champions Celtic maintained their stranglehold on the top of the ladder with a 2-1 triumph against third-placed Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Callum McGregor fired the Bhoys ahead on 10 minutes and, after Ashton Taylor netted an equaliser for the Dons on 27 minutes, Kristoffer Ajer grabbed an 81st minute winner.

Rogic came on for Olivier Ntcham in the 79th minute to help push for the winner that keeps the Hoops 10 points clear of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, who have a game in hand.

Martin Boyle started and played 90 minutes at right-back for Hibs in their 2-1 win on the road against Kilmarnock as sixth beat seventh at Rugby Park.

First-half goals from Greg Doherty and Adam Jackson, either side of Chris Burke’s equaliser for Killie, secured three points for the visitors, before Boyle's post-match interview descended into farce!

Across the North Sea in the Netherlands, Ajdin Hrustic helped FC Groningen to a 2-1 win away against Sparta Rotterdam.

Joel Asorio and Ramon-Pascal Lundqvist put the Green-White Army two goals to the good at half-time at Sparta Stadion, before Mohamed Rayhi’s penalty gave the hosts some hope.

Hrustic was withdrawn on 78 minutes for Samir Memisevic as eighth-placed Groningen saw out the win over their 11th-placed opponents in the Dutch Eredivisie.

In Cyprus, Apostolos Giannou got 62 minutes under his belt in AEK Larnaca’s 1-0 success against Doxa Katokopia.

Ivan Trickovski’s 54th-minute goal decided the match at Makario Stadium to keep Giannou’s side fifth in the table.

Mustafa Amini’s AGF were scheduled to be in Danish Superliga action against Raiders but the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Aarhus Idaetspark.

Back down under, Josh Risdon played 90 minutes for Western United in their 1-0 loss to Hyundai A-League Finals Series rivals Brisbane Roar at Mars Stadium in Ballarat, Victoria.
