Aussies Abroad: Milligan, Boyle help stop Rangers, Vukovic's side stunned

Caltex Socceroos Mark Milligan and Martin Boyle were second-half substitutes as Hibernian held Scottish Premiership giants Rangers to a goalless draw on Thursday morning (AEDT).

Rangers entered the clash on top of the table but dropped to second after failing to convert their dominance at Easter Road into goals.

Hibernian boss Neil Lennon introduced Milligan at the half-time break to add some steel to his side.

And Boyle was brought on with 25 minutes to play as Hibernian looked to stretch Rangers on the counter attack.

It was largely one-way traffic, though, with Steven Gerrard’s side controlling the contest.

But they could not score, with Milligan involved in a moment of controversy eight minutes from time when an Alfredo Morelos shot appeared to strike his arm inside the penalty area.

No penalty was given and Hibernian held on for a draw that extended their unbeaten run to four matches.

And Rangers’ failure to win saw Tom Rogic’s Celtic move ahead of them after the reigning champions cruised past Motherwell 3-0.

Rogic was absent after getting an injection to manage a knee problem.

Also on Thursday morning (AEDT), Danny Vukovic’s Genk were shocked by second-tier Royal Union Saint-Gilloise in the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup.

Vukovic’s side came from behind twice in the 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw, forcing extra time and ultimately a penalty shootout.

But the lower league side held their nerve, Faiz Selemani scoring past Vukovic with the decisive penalty.
