Here’s a wrap of the Aussies Abroad from overnight…

MACLAREN’S HIBS REMAIN UNBEATEN

Former Hyundai A-League golden boot Jamie Maclaren has made his first start for Hibernian since securing his season-long loan from German club Darmstadt 98.

And the Aussie almost had a dream start, going close to opening the scoring on 13 minutes when his shot from Martin Boyle’s cut back was cleared off the line.

Maclaren, who scored eight goals in 11 starts for Hibs last season, was also involved in a possible penalty shout just before the break when he appeared to get pulled back in the act of shooting, but the referee waved away his appeals.

In the end, the 25-year-old played just over an hour as Hibernian remained unbeaten through the first two rounds with a 1-1 draw at St Johnstone to sit second on the ladder behind Ben Garuccio and Oliver Bozanic’s Hearts.

VUKOVIC’S GENK NAB IMPRESSIVE ROAD WIN

In Belgium, Danny Vukovic’s Genk maintained their unbeaten start to the new Pro League campaign with a hard-fought 2-0 win at Oostende.

Vukovic, who again started in goal, made six saves over the 90 minutes to secure his second clean sheet in three league matches in 2018/19.

Genk left it late to secure their win, scoring both goals in the last 11 minutes through Leandro Trossard and Ruslan Malinovsky.

The result means Genk have two wins and a draw from their opening three matches to sit third, two points behind leaders Anderlecht and Club Brugge.

OTHER AUSSIES IN EUROPEAN ACTION

Caltex Socceroos defender Milos Degenek started again in Serbia as his Red Star Belgrade side thumped Spartak Subotica 3-0 to sit top of the Super Liga table with a 100% record after four games.

Alex Gersbach’s Rosenborg missed the chance to go to the top of the ladder in Norway after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Stabaek.

Gersbach started and played 57 minutes as Marius Lundemo’s second-half goal saved a point for Rosenborg, who remain one point behind leaders Brann.

In Denmark, ex-Adelaide United flyer Awer Mabil played the last 35 minutes as his Midtjylland outclassed a 10-man Horsens 3-0.

Compatriot Mustafa Amini’s AGF were held to a goalless draw by Randers, with the young Aussie playing just over an hour.

Finally, Ajdin Hrustic played a full game for Groningen, who opened the Eredivisie season in the Netherlands with a 5-1 loss against Vitesse, while Mark Birighitti was in goal for NAC Breda in a 5-0 loss to AZ.
