Aussies Abroad: Kerr scores in Chicago's huge win against Reign FC

Sam Kerr scored her 11th goal of the National Women’s Soccer League season in a rousing 4-0 win for Chicago Red Stars over Reign FC on Monday morning.

Westfield Matildas captain Kerr iced a dominant display from Chicago with a cool finish in the 81st minute after an incisive run and pass from teammate Katie Johnson.

The Red Stars had earlier led 2-0 at half time via Arin Wright and Vanessa DiBernardo goals, before Brisbane Roar playmaker Yuki Nagasato got on the board five minutes after the interval.

Rory Dames’ Chicago side move third after securing a win which ends Reign’s 12-match unbeaten streak at home, while also dealing the club’s title defence a blow.

Kerr’s strike was her 11th of the campaign. The Australian striker leads the Golden Boot charts over North Carolina Courage forward Kristen Hamilton (eight), Portland Thorns duo Midge Purce and Christine Sinclair (six) and Courage attacker Lynn Williams (six).

Portland are first in the NWSL, with North Carolina and Chicago second and third respectively.
