Aussies Abroad: Garuccio hits stunner, wins for Vukovic and Degenek

Ben Garuccio’s superb start for Heart of Midlothian continued overnight after the fullback claimed a goal and an assist in the club's 5-0 rout of Inverness in the Scottish League Cup.

The 23-year-old struck a wonderful free kick in the 31st minute and supplied an assist for Hearts' forward Uche Ikpeazu two minutes later as the club raced to a 3-0 half time lead.

Having claimed an assist on his competitive debut for the club on Tuesday against Cowdenbeath, the former Adelaide United flyer is making quite the impression in Scotland and left the field on 82 minutes to a standing ovation.

Australian teammate Oliver Bozanic was an unused substitute.

Elsewhere, Milos Degenek played 90 minutes in another win for Red Star Belgrade as the Serbian powerhouse secured a 2-0 victory over Radnički Niš.

Degenek has now played part in a run of four consecutive clean sheets for the Serbian league leaders.

They’re back in action against FK Suduva in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifying round on Thursday (3.30AM kick off AEST).

Danny Vukovic was also in action overnight and claimed his first shutout of the season in Genk’s 4-0 victory over Lokoren in their Belgian League opener.

Genk are due to face Luxembourg side Fola Esch in the second leg of their Europa League qualifying round encounter on Thursday morning at 2.00AM (AEST).
