Caitlin Foord was on target in the battle of the Westfield Matildas as Portland Thorns beat Orlando Pride 3-1 in the National Women's Soccer League.
Foord, Ellie Carpenter and Hayley Raso’s Portland came from behind against Emily van Egmond’s Pride, who were without defender Alanna Kennedy.

Former Canberra United star Toni Pressley opened the scoring for the home side after ten minutes at Orlando City Stadium, before Icelandic midfielder Dagný Brynjarsdóttir reacted fastest to hit the equaliser in the 28th minute.
Brazil international Andressinha put the visitors in front from a stunning free-kick on 36 minutes and Raso came on for Swiss forward Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic at half-time to make her first appearance of the season.
Foord gave the Thorns a two-goal cushion in the 57th minute with a crisply hit volley, but the Sydney FC striker could not double her tally on 66 minutes. Her penalty kick was saved by Pride keeper Haley Kopmeyer.
A 50-minute weather delay held up the closing stages as Portland collected all three points to climb to fourth in the NWSL ladder. Orlando remain bottom of the pile in ninth place.
Polkinghorne holds firm for three points
Houston Dash surged to the top of the NWSL ladder after a stoic defensive effort from Clare Polkinghorne and company saw them leapfrog the Utah Royals.
United States international Amy Rodriguez scored on 29 minutes at Rio Tinto Stadium to put the then league leaders ahead.
A quick-fire double by English striker Rachel Daly, either side of half-time, flipped the game on its head.
Daly was sent off in the closing minutes, leaving Polkinghorne’s defence to cling on to a 2-1 win, despite surrendering 66% of possession. Kyah Simon was an unused sub for Houston.
Logarzo and Harrison clinch a W
Chloe Logarzo and Amy Harrison’s Washington Spirit rallied to take a 3-2 triumph at Sky Blue FC.
The Australian pair were both in the starting line-up at Yurcak Field, New Jersey, as Cheyna Matthews fired the away side ahead on 22 minutes.
Raquel Rodriguez levelled the scores before half-time but second-half strikes from Matthews on 55 and Jordan DiBiasi on 68 put Spirit in the ascendancy.
Imani Dorsey struck back with 10 minutes left on the clock but Spirit closed the game out to go fifth in the NWSL ladder.
Chidiac’s Atleti miss out on domestic double
Atletico Madrid could not add the Copa de la Reina to their trophy cabinet as the La Liga Feminina champions lost 2-1 to Real Sociedad.
Alex Chidiac did not feature for Atleti as her side went a goal to the good through Spanish striker Esther Gonzalez on 15 minutes.
Four minutes later, Mexico international Kiana Palacios restored parity for Sociedad, who finish seventh in the final league standings.
With the game in the balance, Nahikari Garcia struck the winner in the 81st minute as Sociedad clinched an upset victory to lift the trophy at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.
