Aussies Abroad: Duke heads home as Rogic helps Celtic to victory

With the international break looming, it was another promising round of action for our Aussies Abroad!

Mitchell Duke scored his second goal for Fagiano Okayama, while Tom Rogic's magical cameo helped Celtic to a vital victory   Harry Souttar was dominant in another clean sheet for Stoke City.

Our weekend wrap begins in Japan where Duke put Okayama ahead in the 74th minute with a perfectly judged glancing header.

The powerful forward was all smiles until opponents FC Ryukyu converted an 88th minute penalty resulting in a 1 – 1 draw.

Moving across the globe to England, where Harry Souttar played another full 90 minutes in Stoke City’s 1 – 0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

The result lifts the Potters to fourth on the Championship ladder on the back of their best performance of the season in front of their biggest crowd of the season, 22,703, just one behind the Baggies in second.

Staying in the Championship, where Kenny Dougall made his eighth start of the season in the heart of midfield for Blackpool who claimed a 1 – 0 win over Blackburn Rovers.

The Seasiders continued their rise up the ladder to twelfth after three wins from their last four matches.

Riley McGree came in on the 58th minute for Birmingham City in their 1 - 0 loss to Nottingham Forrest.

It was a tough day at the office for Bailey Wright’s Sunderland who fell 4 – 0 to away to Portsmouth, with the Socceroo playing a full 90 minutes.

The Black Cats remain second in League One at the time of writing and will be looking to return to winning ways against Gillingham next weekend.

October Thin Banner Final

Across to Scotland, where Tom Rogic came off the bench in the second half to help inspire Celtic to their first away win since February.

The Socceroos midfielder played a pinpoint pass to kick off the attack that produced Jota's decisive strike in the Hoops' 2-1 win over Aberdeen.

Elsewhere, Martin Boyle played another 90 minutes on what was a difficult day for Hibernian, as they suffered their first defeat of the season in a 2-1 loss to Rangers.

Heading to Germany, Ajdin Hrustic was introduced in the second half of a tremedous boilover at the Allianz Arena.

Hrustic's Eintracht Frankfurt, who were yet to win in the Bundesliga this season, scored late to seal a shock 2-1 victory over league leaders Bayern Munich.

It was also a good day for Jackson Irvine in the German second division, as he played a full match for St Pauli in their 3-0 win over Dynamo Dresden.

In the Netherlands, Danny Vukovic was an unused substitute in NEC's 3 - 1 win over Fortuna Sittard.

To Belgium, where it was heartbreak for Trent Sainsbury’s KV Kortrijk, who conceded a 95th minute equaliser against Charleroi at home.

Kortijk remain in playoff positions, but it was a tough pill to swallow for the home fans, who saw their side concede two goals in the final 10 minutes last week.

Elsewhere in Belgium, Daniel Arzani started upfront for Lommel SK in a 1 – 0 loss to table-toppers Westerlo in the Belgium First Division B.

The loss sees Lommel drop to third in the division but it was a promising sign of faith in Arzani from manager Peter van der Veen.

In Greece, James Jeggo started for Aris Thessaloniki in their scoreless draw against Apollon Smyrni.

Meanwhile, in Turkey Aziz Behich made his second successive start for Giresunspor in a 1 – 0 win over Goeztepe.

It was a crucial away win for the Turkish Super Lig side who now sit equal on points with Goeztepe and point away from escaping the relegation zone.

In Italy, Fran Karacic earned his first minutes of the Serie B season for Brescia.

However, it turned out to be a day to forget for the recently-recalled Socceroo, who was shown two yellow cards in less than 10 minutes, to be dismissed late on in his side's 4-2 defeat to Como.

Finally in the J.League, Adam Taggart started and played 45 minutes of Cerezo Osaka's 1-0 defeat to Oita Trinita.
