Aussies Abroad: De Vanna helps Fiorentina bounce back in Italy

Lisa De Vanna’s Fiorentina got their Serie A Women’s campaign back on the right track with a 3-0 away win over Empoli on Saturday night (AEDT).

La Viola went down 1-0 against league-leaders Juventus last weekend but responded in emphatic fashion at the Centro Sportivo Monteboro.

The Westfield Matildas attacker started and played the full 90 minutes in the resounding win, with Laura Agard, Tatiana Bonetti and Janelle Cordia scoring the goals.

The result sends Fiorentina into second spot – six points behind leaders Juve - above AC Milan by two points, although AC gave a game in hand.

De Vanna’s side are next in action on Wednesday when they take on Ravenna in the Women’s Coppa Italia.

Over in Germany and Emily Gielnik remained on the bench as Bayern Munich made it back-to-back wins with a 2-0 triumph over Freiburg.

The victory keeps third-place Bayern within touching distance of Hoffenheim and leaders Wolfsburg.
