Aussies Abroad: Chidiac on verge of title glory in Spain

Westfield Matildas playmaker Alex Chidiac's Atletico Madrid have moved one step closer to the La Liga title in Spain after a vital win over the weekend.

Atletico edged past Espanyol 1-0 at RCDE Stadium thanks to Angela Sosa’s first-half goal.

Chidiac was a late substitute for the visitors, who made it four wins in a row to sit on the cusp of league glory.

With just two matches of the season to go, Atletico are three points clear of second-placed Barcelona. The two sides drew a world-record crowd for a women's match when they met in March.

Chidiac and her teammates could get their hands on the trophy as early as this weekend when they face Valencia and Barca take on Sevilla.

Elsewhere, fellow Westfield Matildas midfielder Aivi Luik also tasted victory as her Levante side defeated local rivals Valencia 3-1 on Tuesday (AEST).

Luik was a second-half substitute for Levante, playing the last 16 minutes as her side ensured they would finish in third spot.
