Aussies Abroad: Antonis assists Taggart's superb strike on K-League debut

Terry Antonis has made the perfect start to his Suwon Bluewings career after combining with teammate Adam Taggart to score a superb goal in a 2-0 K-League win over Daegu.

Caltex Socceroos striker Taggart buried a sublime volley 15 minutes from time to seal the win on the road, with three-cap Caltex Socceroo Antonis providing the assist from next to the sideline.

Antonis, 25, who came on as a substitute, was playing in his first match for Suwon after signing from Hyundai A-League outfit Melbourne Victory last week.

Taggart’s goal has taken his tally to an incredible 13 goals in 20 K-League matches since joining Suwon from Brisbane Roar in February.

The 26-year-old, who also scored for the K-League All Stars against Juventus on Friday night, has now found the net nine times in his last nine K-League fixtures.

It was a huge result for sixth-placed Suwon, who have now closed the gap to just one point to Daegu who are one spot ahead in fifth on the K-League ladder.

Taggart and Antonis are next in action for Suwon on Sunday night (9pm AEST) when they take on Pohang Steelers.

Elsewhere, there was heartbreak for Caltex Socceroos defender Trent Sainsbury’s PSV Eindhoven who have been eliminated in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

The Eredivisie outfit lost the second leg 2-1 against FC Basel in Switzerland this morning.

Having won the first leg 3-2 in the Netherlands last week, Mark van Bommel’s side were eliminated on the away goals rule.
