Around the Grounds: Mariners pledge support to RFS as bushfires blaze

The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) will receive a donation from each ticket sold at the Central Coast Mariners' next two home matches.

Two dollars from every ticket sold for the club's upcoming Hyundai A-League matches against Adelaide United and Western United in Round 6 and 7 will be donated to the RFS.

The support comes as dozens of bushfires continue to burn across the east coast of Australia, with Gosford on the Central Coast one of the areas at highest risk as of Tuesday, 12 November.

“Given the current state of emergency, the club want to throw our support behind the brave men and women of our emergency services currently battling the devastating bushfires,” said Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp.

“I’d like to stress how important it is for everyone to have a bush fire survival plan in place, and don’t leave it until it’s too late.”

“Now is the time to rally as a community, and help those working to protect us.”

The meaning behind Duke's goal celebration

Saturday's loss to Western United left Western Sydney Wanderers supporters frustrated but for one young fan it was still a night to remember.

That was because Mitch Duke dedicated his opening goal to 14-year-old Anabelle, who is on the comeback trail from a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Duke sustained the same injury setback one year after signing for J-League outfit Shimizu S-Pulse in 2015.

Last week, the Wanderers captain visited the up-and-coming Football NSW Institute star to offer some words of support and present her with a signed jersey.

Adelaide legends draw 1-1 with ADF

Marcelo Carrusca, Travis Dodd and Bruce Djite were among the Adelaide legends who joined ranks for a friendly match against the Australian Defence Force Open Men's Football Team on Sunday.

The Adelaide team, featuring over 1,300 appearances between them, drew 1-1 after Travis Dodd's first-half penalty was cancelled out.

The initiative was in support of Soldier On, a support service for those who have served Australia and their families.
