Around the grounds: D’Agostino scores six minute hat-trick for Perth Glory

Premiers Perth Glory are building nicely towards the start of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season after scoring nine goals in a resounding pre-season friendly win on Wednesday night.

New attacking stars Nick D’Agostino and Bruno Fornaroli stole the show, scoring five goals between them, including a quickfire hat-trick from Australian U-23 international D'Agostino.

The 21-year-old former Brisbane Roar attacker came on at the break with Glory already leading 4-0 over Murdoch University and Melville FC and scored in the 49th, 53rd and 55th minutes to complete a sensational treble.

Uruguayan striker Bruno Fornaroli scored the first two goals of the match, capitalising on excellent lead-up work from Diego Castro.

Further goals from Tomislav Mrcela, Ivan Franjic, Gabriel Popovic and an own goal completed the rout for Glory.

New recruits Kim Soo-beom and Osama Malik made their debuts for the club, while defender Alex Grant returned to action after a six-month absence through injury.

"Nick D'Agostino scoring some goals was nice to see, as was Osama [Malik] coming through 45 minutes unscathed having started pre-season a bit later and Alex [Grant] coming on after such a long lay-off,” Glory boss Tony Popovic said.

“There were so many positives, not just in the performance but in players getting minutes and getting through.

"There were a lot of good things and it's all working towards Round 1."

Wanderers sink Mariners ahead of FFA Cup ties

Western Sydney Wanderers warmed up for next week’s FFA Cup 2019 Round of 16 with a comfortable 2-0 win over Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday afternoon.

Markus Babbel’s side did the damage in the first half and made their dominance count on the scoresheet through Swiss recruit Pirmin Schwegler and recently-promoted striker Mohamed Adam.

Schwegler scored with a powerful volley from the edge of the box which took a wicked deflection before finding the back of the net.

Kwame Yeboah was the architect of Adam’s goal just before the half-hour mark, getting to the byline and cutting back for the youngster to finish from close range.
