Around the grounds: Acton injury blow for Victory

Melbourne Victory could soon be on the hunt for another goalkeeper with news Matthew Acton will be out for six months.

The 27-year-old suffered a left shoulder dislocation during a training drill late last week and underwent arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday.

Victory report that the shot stopper - who has 11 Hyundai A-League appearances to his name - is aiming to return towards the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The injury leaves 19-year-old Matthew Sutton as the back-up option to number one Lawrence Thomas.

“It’s unfortunate to lose a talent like Matt from the group for a sustained period,” Kurz told the club website.

“The outcome is disappointing for everyone. Matt is obviously feeling flat, but his teammates and everyone at the club are supporting him.

"He is a popular member of the squad and will continue to contribute to the group in any way that he can.

"We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back at full fitness as soon as possible.”

Dual role for Santalab

Former Hyundai A-League Star Brendon Santalab has signed for Victorian State League 1 outfit Caroline Springs George Cross.

The 37-year-old had featured for NPL Victoria side Dandenong City in 2019, following his exit from Perth Glory.

But Santalab - who won the 2014 AFC Champions League with Western Sydney Wanderers - will now ply his trade for the club based in Fraser Rise in Melbourne's north-western suburbs, in a move that also sees the striker appointed the club's Commercial and Football Sales Manager.

George Cross finished fifth on the ladder in 2019.

Gol de Archie

Archie Thompson has scored his first goal for Spanish fifth division side Racing Murcia in a 5-1 win over EF Alhama.

The Hyundai A-League legend, who scored 90 goals and won three Championships with Melbourne Victory, signed for the fifth tier outfit on a guest stint contract in August.
