Angus Thurgate named November Nominee for the Young Footballer of the Year

Newcastle Jets attacker Angus Thurgate has been named the Hyundai A-League’s Young Player of the Month for November.

The 19-year-old, from Port Macquarie, has been a big hit in the Hunter this season, forcing himself into head coach Ernie Merrick’s plans with some stunning performances.

The Jets had a resurgence in November, winning two and drawing one of their four matches, with Thurgate starting twice and making two substitute appearances.

Thurgate opened his account for the season against Western United in Round 6, netting the only goal of the game in the 36th minute of Newcastle’s 1-0 win at GMHBA Stadium.

Although he started the next match among the substitutes, the Young Socceroo came on and made a huge impact against Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 8.

After being introduced on 63 minutes, he scored to break the deadlock at McDonald Jones Stadium 15 minutes later, before setting up Dimitri Petratos to seal a 2-0 victory.
