Andreatta leaves Brisbane Roar as Goodship takes the reins

Premiership-winning coach Mel Andreatta has parted ways with Brisbane Roar and will be replaced by experienced academy coach Jake Goodship.

Andreatta led the Roar to consecutive top two finishes and secured the club’s third Premiership in 2017/18 after her appointment at the beginning of the Westfield W-League 2016/17 campaign.

The Queenslander is one of Australia’s foremost youth development coaches, responsible for producing a long list of national team representatives at both senior and junior levels.

Andreatta recently formed part of the Westfield Matildas coaching staff at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup and will continue in her role as part of the national team’s female coach mentor program.

“The opportunity for Mel to continue her role with the Westfield Matildas is a testament to the incredible work she has done here at Brisbane Roar, throughout Australia, and recently at the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” said Brisbane CEO David Pourre.

“On behalf of everyone at Brisbane Roar, we would like to sincerely thank Mel for her dedication and hard work in a variety of positions throughout many years.”

Her departure leaves a sizeable void for Goodship, an experienced youth team mentor, to fill.

Goodship has been involved in Brisbane’s academy program since its inception, and last season led the Young Roar to an impressive NPL Queensland campaign, following the team’s Foxtel Y-League Championship-winning exploits of the season previous.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to be part of the success the Roar Women have had, previously under Mel Andreatta,” Goodship said.

“There’s great staff and it’s a great playing squad – I’m excited to move forward and build more success here with the squad.

“I want to be successful, but we also want to improve. I am keen to be successful on field, but success also comes in pushing players to the next level, improving their games and progressing to places like the [Westfield] Matildas squad.

“The stronger Brisbane Roar is, the stronger the national team is too so I’ll be working as hard to bring success and improvement to the squad.”
