Aloisi praises efforts of 'great' goalkeeper Young

Brisbane Roar manager John Aloisi has praised goalkeeper Jamie Young’s ability to consistently pull off crucial saves for his side.

Young has been front and centre for the Roar this campaign with a string of last-ditch blocks, including a spectacular double save against Perth Glory last week.

Despite his effort being a highlight, Brisbane succumbed 2-1 and Aloisi reiterated the need for a better result against Western Sydney Wanderers in Mudgee on Saturday night.

“We all know that 'Youngy' is a great goalkeeper, we seem to expect it of him,” Aloisi said.

“He knows how to pull off good saves and that’s what you want your goalkeeper to do but ... we want to make sure we get the right one this week.”

The man himself was characteristically understated, saying he was simply enjoying playing the game.

“I feel good, I’m enjoying playing football,” Young said.

“I certainly enjoy playing for this club, this team and this manager so I’ve got nothing to complain about!”

When quizzed on what Brisbane were struggling with, Aloisi pointed out his side’s inability to start games well and said that the opening exchanges had been the focus of this week’s training.

“I think it’s important that we start well because I think the last couple of games we haven’t started particularly well,” he said.

“We’ve [been] working on that this week in training, not only with the ball but without it…if we do that then normally we’ll have a good game.

“We’ve got a lot of belief and we know that we’ll start winning and once we do, we’ll get on a good run.”

The Brisbane manager also took the time to praise the Wanderers’ and Mudgee City Council’s efforts to take a Hyundai A-League match to a regional area.

“We like getting out into regional areas,” he said.

“The boys will have the chance to go out to the ground, thanks to the Wanderers and Mudgee City Council for actually allowing us to, so they’ll get a look around before tomorrow.”
